COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
Composition: A blend of an inorganic peroxygen compound, inorganic salts, organic acid, anionic detergent, inorganic chlorine compound.
HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION May cause eye damage.Irritant to skin.May cause irritation through dust release. FIRST-AID MEASURES
FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES SUITABLE EXTINGUISHER: WATER, FOAM, DRY POWDER, CO2 SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Virasure itself is not flammable, but may assist combustion of other materials under exceptional circumstances. SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Firefighting personnel are required to wear breathing apparatus in the event of a fire involving Virasure, since release of Sulphur dioxide gas may occur. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURESPERSONAL PRECAUTIONS Wear gloves, overalls, eye protection and dust mask as specified in section 8. Prevent build up of dust as far as possible and remove sources of ignition. SPILL CLEAN UP METHODS Sweep up carefully, preferably with the aid of suitable dry anti-dusting agent if available. Place in suitable containers for disposal. Prevent powder from becoming moist whilst awaiting disposal, if possible. Moist product awaiting disposal must be kept away from combustible material and stored in a manner which allows suitable ventilation of the waste ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS Do not allow the powder concentrate to enter the drains. Small quantities (<1kg) however can be diluted to waste with large quantities of water. Do not allow entry to surface waters. HANDLING AND STORAGEUSAGE PRECAUTIONS Handle with sufficient care to prevent dust build up. The use of L.E.V. may be required when handling the product supplied in bulk quantities. Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear protective clothing. (see section 8.) STORAGE PRECAUTIONS Keep containers tightly sealed and avoid coming into contact with moisture during storage. Keep away from combustible material. Avoid contamination of product. Virasure 1% solution: Store in clean loosely capped polythene bottles at normal temperatures away from direct sunlight. Do not allow to freeze. Discard solution either once the colour is lost, or after 7 days from date of preparation. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTIONPROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT ENGINEERING MEASURES Appropriate Local Exhaust Ventilation (L.E.V.) is necessary for handling the product in situations where dust formation is a problem i.e. product in bulk quantities. Not normally necessary for preparation of solutions from 50g, 500g, 1Kg, and 5Kg packs. CONTROL PARAMETERS 5mg/m3 (8 hr T.W.A.) for respirable dust (manufacturers recommendation.) RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT Dust mask for fine particles (e.g. 3M Type 8710) HAND PROTECTION PVC or rubber gloves (e.g. Marigold type G17K). EYE PROTECTION Goggles or faceshield to B.S. 2092 Standard. OTHER PROTECTION Wear appropriate clothing to prevent any possibility of skin contact. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
STABILITY AND REACTIVITY STABILITY Stable under normal conditions. CONDITIONS TO AVOID Moisture ingress to the stored powder. MATERIALS TO AVOID Strong alkalis Salt(sodium chloride) KCl, KBr, KI. Virasure may react with these substances in solution to release halogen gases (Cl2, Br2, or I2). Combustible materials. Hazardous decomposition products: Oxygen, Sulphur dioxide. Chlorine under certain extreme conditions if powder becomes moist. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATIONINHALATION 4123 mg/Kg SKIN CONTACT Greater than 2000mg/Kg EYE CONTACT May cause eye damage. Virasure 1% solution: Non-irritating. SKIN SENSITISATION Not sensitising as Virasure 1% solution. HUMAN EXPERIENCE The powder is a strong eye irritant, irritant to skin and by inhalation of dust. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATIONPERSISTENCE AND DEGRADABILITY Expected to be biodegradable. The product contains 75% inorganic salts, with the remaining organic components Malic acid and Sodium alkyl benzene sulphonate both conforming to EEC Biodegradibility requirements. AQUATIC TOXICITY No data on fish toxicity. Virasure diluted to a level of 1:50000 has been shown to have no effect on the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (B.O.D.) 5-day test. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONSGENERAL INFORMATION When handling waste, consideration should be made to the safety precautions applying to handling of the product. DISPOSAL METHODS Dispose of waste and residues in accordance with the Special Waste Regulations 1996 REGULATORY INFORMATION
